Pieces that survive Brighton light

Ultraviolet through a lantern fades dyes and dries timber faster than in a solid-walled parlour. We favour fabrics with proven light fastness, loose covers that can be rotated, and timber oils that can be renewed after a summer season facing Hove Lawns.

Deep sofas that look fine in a showroom often choke a six-metre lean-to. We measure diagonal walks and door arcs before recommending anything with a high back or chaise.

Dining in the bright volume

Many clients want a table for six under glass. We check whether chairs can pull out without hitting plant stands, and whether a round table eases circulation better than a rectangle in a bay-adjacent extension.

Extendable tables help when Sunday lunch guests walk up from the seafront; the closed size must still leave a clear path to the garden door on ordinary Tuesdays.

Storage without blocking glass

Low benches with lift lids hold throws and board games while keeping sightlines to the garden. Tall cabinets belong on the solid wall shared with the house, never as a cliff against the glazing.

Wicker and cane suit the coastal mood but need to stay off damp floors; we raise them on small feet or keep them on rugs that can be aired.
